First Aid & CPR Certification — Frequently Asked Questions
Answers based on Ontario WSIB rules and Canadian Red Cross policy — no guesswork.
Most Ontario workplaces require Intermediate/Standard First Aid certification. This first aid and CPR training is WSIB approved, meeting WSIB Regulation 1101 and CSA Standard Z1210-17. We help our corporate clients stay compliant. To be fully prepared, you need hands-on training, as online-only certificates are not accepted. Our team helps all our clients find the right first aid and CPR training. Find courses on our Markham First Aid & CPR page.
There is no difference. Intermediate First Aid is the new name for Standard First Aid, a 2022 change by the Canadian Red Cross. The curriculum, which includes vital life-saving skills, is identical. This first aid and CPR training is valid for three years and can be recertified once within 90 days of expiry. After that, the full course is required again to ensure you are prepared for an emergency response.
We offer first aid and CPR training at two Markham locations. The first is at 22 Esna Park Drive, Markham, ON L3R 1E1. Our second is at 28 South Unionville Ave #2102-2108, Markham, ON L3R 1J5. Both serve our clients in Unionville, Milliken Mills, and are near Markville Mall and Seneca College Markham Campus. Free parking is available for all clients at both facilities.
A Canadian Red Cross CPR/AED Level C certificate is valid for three years. Intermediate/Standard First Aid can be recertified once, within 90 days of expiry. You must recertify with your original provider. For instance, a certificate from the Lifesaving Society cannot be renewed with a Red Cross recertification course; you would need to take the full first aid and CPR training to switch providers.
Basic Life Support (BLS) is advanced CPR for healthcare providers, replacing CPR-HCP. It focuses on team-based emergency response for events like a heart attack and is valid for one year. In Markham, we offer bls certification from both the Canadian Red Cross and Heart & Stroke Foundation. In contrast, CPR/AED Level C covers adult, child, and infant (including responding to a heart attack), while Level B covers child and infant only. Find courses on our Markham BLS page.
You receive your digital certificate via email, so there is no waiting, within 48 hours of completion. Certification requires 100% attendance and a minimum 75% grade on the hands-on training. For blended learning courses, you get a link to the online portion of the training within 24 hours of registration. This must be finished before your in-class skills session.
