BLS Certification and Recertification

Our Canadian Red Cross-approved Basic Life Support training course provides you with a WSIB approved certificate. Our Canadian Red Cross BLS currently does not have a Recertification training, but we do have an option for you. Anyone with an existing Basic Life Support certificate can register for the full training course at a discounted rate. The process just requires you to select “Renew Your Basic Life Support (HCP)” during registration with us. This is done from the dropdown menu when selecting the course level. Bring your current BLS certificate with you to the course, and once completed, you receive your Canadian Red Cross certificate, with one-year validity.

For those who have completed their training with Heart & Stroke, you may register for our Heart & Stroke BLS recertification course instead.

In-class training is essential for learning about Basic Life Support, and the Canadian Red Cross does not provide the training course online.

Basic Life Support training and passing the course means receiving a certificate valid for one year. The training changed in 2019 from the previous HCP because of the importance of renewing your life-saving skills.

After completing the course, everyone must prove their hands-on skills and knowledge in the multiple-choice exam. If you fail either part of the training, your instructor gives you a second chance to pass after pointing out your errors.

Another failure means that you cannot receive a certificate and must re-register for the full training again. Contact our office to enroll again.

Pay attention in class, take notes, ask questions, and read through the free Basic Life Support e-book before the course to increase the chance of passing. Our Markham instructors are always willing to help too.

We recommend completing the Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C training course in Markham if you are struggling with the course.
