Common Questions

First Aid & CPR Certification — Frequently Asked Questions

Answers based on Ontario WSIB rules, Canadian Red Cross policy, and Kitchener course options.

The majority of workplaces require Intermediate/Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C, covering Adult, Child, and Infant. WSIA mandates this training, and since the WSIB modernized First Aid Program launched on June 22, 2026, courses must meet CSA Z1210:24 standards. WSIB approved certificates are required; online-only certificates do not count for workplace compliance, because employers need staff who have completed hands-on training and can protect coworkers in real emergency situations.

These are two names for the same Ontario workplace course. Many people still search for Standard First Aid, while current terminology also uses Intermediate First Aid. The course typically runs 13 to 14 hours over two days, covers advanced topics such as head injuries, environmental emergencies, and medical emergencies, and certificates are valid for three years. The course material is identical either way, so you leave with the same certificate and the same confidence in your skills.

Your CPR/AED Level C cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is valid for three years, and recertification must be completed with the same certifying body. A recertification course for Intermediate/Standard First Aid is available within 90 days of expiry for eligible students, and a blended recertification course can often be completed in as little as 4 hours. Past 90 days, the full course is required, with a minimum passing grade of 75%. Either route reviews the same course material and the same techniques, so your skills stay current.

Yes. BLS replaced CPR-HCP in April 2019. Basic Life Support is mandatory for many clinical roles, including nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare providers, and this Red Cross certification requires annual renewal, so a short recertification course each year keeps your card valid. The course focuses on high-performance CPR and team-based response techniques that save lives during cardiac arrest, with optional Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy add-ons for extended clinical scope. No prerequisites are needed to register.

Yes. First aid courses and CPR training courses include practice with an AED Trainer and first aid equipment used for classroom scenarios. You'll practice recognizing emergencies, performing CPR, and managing choking and bleeding safely until trained personnel or EMS arrive. Repeating those steps on real equipment builds the confidence to act in emergency situations, since early defibrillation and strong compressions save lives.

Yes. Pediatric First Aid offers specialized training for infants and children, and the Babysitting Course (ages 11 to 15) covers basic first aid decision-making often required for babysitting jobs. Younger children can take the Stay Safe! course to build childcare skills and calm, practical safety habits. The educational course material is written for their age group, so young students finish with real confidence instead of memorized rules.

Yes. Event first response services support safety at large gatherings and public events. Trained responders on site can manage injuries, illness, and crowd-related incidents. Organizers know the importance of having certified staff who can save lives while EMS is on the way. Contact us for event coverage, private group training, or workplace first aid and CPR training.

Most cpr Kitchener and first aid courses range from about $60 to $150, depending on the certification level and course length. Group and corporate rates are available for teams of 8 or more; contact us for an exact quote for your Kitchener workplace.
