First Aid & CPR Certification β Frequently Asked Questions
Answers based on Ontario WSIB rules, Canadian Red Cross policy, and Waterloo course options.
Majority of workplaces require Intermediate first aid certification with CPR/AED Level C, which covers Adult, Child, and Infant. Since the WSIB modernized First Aid Program launched on June 22, 2026, courses must meet CSA Z1210:24 standards. Online-only certificates do not count for workplace compliance, because employers need staff who have practised the skills with an instructor.
These are two names for the same Ontario workplace course. Many people still search for Standard First Aid, while current terminology also uses Intermediate First Aid. The course runs 13 to 14 hours over two days, covers head and spinal injuries, environmental injuries, and medical emergencies, and the certificate stays valid for three years. The material is identical either way. Book the Waterloo blended course here.
Your CPR/AED Level C certificate is valid for three years, and recertification must be completed with the same certifying body. Eligible students can recertify within 90 days of expiry, and a blended recertification often takes about 4 hours. Past 90 days, the full course is required, with a minimum passing grade of 75%.
The levels differ by who you are trained to help. CPR Level C covers Adult, Child, and Infant, which is why most workplaces ask for it. CPR Level B covers Child and Infant only and mostly suits childcare settings. CPR Level A covers Adult only. All three include automated external defibrillator practice.
Yes, BLS replaced CPR-HCP in April 2019. Basic Life Support is mandatory for many clinical roles, including nurses and paramedics, and this Red Cross certification requires annual renewal. The course focuses on high-performance CPR and team-based response, with optional Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy add-ons. No prerequisites are needed to register.
Yes. Blended training means students complete a self-paced online portion before attending classroom sessions. We also run courses that are fully in person, for individuals who prefer to learn everything directly from an instructor without video or computer requirements. Both formats lead to the same WSIB approved Canadian Red Cross certificate.
Yes. The Babysitting course for ages 11 to 15 covers first aid decision-making and child care skills, and the certificate is issued with no expiry. Younger students aged 9 to 13 can take Stay Safe! Pediatric First Aid offers focused training for infants and children, which suits parents, nannies, and Early Childhood Educators.
Yes. Event first response services support safety at large gatherings, campus events, and public festivals. Responders on site can manage injuries, illness, and crowd-related incidents while EMS is on the way. Contact us for event coverage or private group training.
Most CPR Waterloo and first aid courses range from about $60 to $150, depending on the certification level and course length. Group and corporate rates are available for teams of 8 or more, so contact us for an exact quote.
