Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Answers based on Ontario WSIB rules and policy — no guesswork.

Company size sets the requirement in Ontario. WSIB regulation outlines the first aid training a company must provide: Basic/Emergency First Aid is recommended for workplaces with 1 to 5 employees, while intermediate first aid is required for workplaces with 6 or more. Both are WSIB approved and meet the standards of Ontario's Occupational Health & Safety Act. Online-only certificates are not accepted.

Course length depends on the level you need. Basic/Emergency First Aid courses typically last one day. Intermediate/Standard First Aid generally requires two days, or a blended equivalent: online theory plus one day in class.

First aid courses cover treatment of choking, severe bleeding and shock. Training also addresses common emergencies including allergic reactions and seizures, and teaches you how to use an Automated External Defibrillator. You practise CPR, which can maintain blood circulation during cardiac arrest.

Participants must achieve a minimum grade of 75% on evaluations. The same 75% minimum applies to recertification.

Specialized first aid courses go beyond the standard workplace certificate. Examples include childhood first aid certification, for people who look after young children, and wilderness first aid, for remote or outdoor settings. Contact us to confirm which specialized courses are scheduled.

Yes, we offer full courses across the GTA. If you prefer not to travel to Richmond Hill, we have fully equipped facilities in North York and downtown Toronto, with schedules that suit students and working professionals alike. Visit our website for the full schedule, or contact our team for help with registration.

The Insurance Board mandates that workplaces have qualified individuals on-site to handle medical emergencies. Taking a basic first aid program teaches proper AED use and helps you manage crises effectively until professional help arrives.

Having a CPR pocket mask is highly recommended for hygiene during practice and in real life. Early bystander action using a CPR pocket mask is essential to safe emergency response. You can find them available during your registration.

Yes, CPR C is included alongside basic first aid. CPR C covers adult, child, and infant techniques. All participants learn the necessary life-saving steps to manage sudden medical emergencies.

Most standard sessions have no prerequisites. Anyone can sign up for basic first aid without prior experience. However, professional responder upgrades and recertifications do have specific prerequisites. Check the website before completing your registration to ensure you meet all prerequisites for the program.

Certification is valid for 3 years. Renewal must be done with the same certifying body, so a document from another provider cannot be renewed with our organization — you would take the full session instead.

Coast2Coast offers mobile first response services for events. Trained responders on site are essential for public event compliance, so organizers stay covered while guests stay safe. See private & group training to arrange coverage.

Yes. BLS replaced HCP in April 2019. It is the standard for medical professionals and first responders, covering high-quality chest compressions and opioid overdose response to improve patient outcomes. It is valid for one year and mandatory for clinical roles. Non-clinical workers should take standard level instead.
