Your prior experience can help you qualify for the Instructor Development Transfer course as per the Canadian Red Cross Standards. Coast2Coast’s First Aid Instructor Transfer course in Hamilton qualifies students to become instructors of Red Cross safety courses such as CPR, Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Child Care First Aid, and Marine Basic First Aid.

With prior expertise, candidates may qualify for the Instructor Development Program in the following two categories:

  1. If they are an instructor approved with another First Aid agency
  2. If they are a Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/Instructor Trainer or an educator at either the elementary or secondary level

Depending on the category the candidate fits in, their training will follow one of these paths:

  1. For those who fit into the first category, candidates will apply what they’ve learned in prior First Aid training to the Red Cross’s program. Before earning their Instructor certification with Red Cross, they will need to check prerequisites and have their skills evaluated. They will then move on to complete the Fundamentals of Instruction component which has an online and in-class component. Once this component is complete, they may skip the Discipline-Specific component. After that, they’ll participate in a short in-class Teaching Experience.
  2. However, those who fall into category 2 will get to skip the Fundamentals of Instruction component and go straight into the Discipline-Specific component. This component lasts up to 14.5 hours. The candidate must successfully complete a skills evaluation to begin this course pathway. Lastly, the candidate will complete a teaching experience component where they will practice peer teaching sessions.

Candidates that finish the course will be rewarded with a certificate that is valid for three years. Sign up now for the course!
