Basic/Emergency First Aid & CPR C Course

A Basic/Emergency First Aid CPR C course covers first aid for common emergencies plus CPR and AED use for adults, children and infants.

You learn the chain of survival, shock, check-call-care, the recovery position, angina and heart attack, stroke, life-threatening bleeding and wound care. Level C adds child and infant choking and CPR.

A Canadian Red Cross Basic/Emergency First Aid CPR Level C certificate is valid for three years.

Yes. In Ontario, a Basic/Emergency First Aid and CPR C certificate meets WSIB Regulation 1101 for workplaces with five or fewer workers per shift.

Workplaces with more than five workers need Intermediate/Standard First Aid, and the majority of workplaces require Intermediate first aid certification. CPR on its own does not meet Regulation 1101.

All our first aid courses are WSIB approved in Ontario, WCB compliant in Nova Scotia and Alberta Occupational Health & Safety compliant. Ask your employer which level they require before you book.

A fully in-person Basic/Emergency First Aid CPR Level C course takes eight hours in one day, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Online Blended splits it into a 3–4 hour online portion of the training and a 5.5-hour in-class session. Both formats need 100% attendance of the in-class session and 75% on the multiple-choice test.

CPR A covers adults only, while CPR C covers adults, children and infants.

Level A runs 6.5 hours in person and Level C runs 8. Most job postings ask for CPR C alongside first aid.

Yes. Intermediate First Aid and Standard First Aid are two names for the same course.

Job postings and certificates use either name. It is the longer 16-hour course for larger workplaces, covered on our first aid courses page.
