Basic Life Support (BLS) — Now Available in Edmonton
BLS training is open at our Edmonton facility for nurses, paramedics, and clinical students. It covers high-performance CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator) use, opioid response, and team resuscitation — the standard across Alberta Health Services. BLS certification is valid one year with no grace period.
Depending on your role you may need BLS Provider or BLS Renewal — a 4-hour in-class course, nationally recognized for hospital placements across Alberta. BLS is valid one year with no grace period.

Before booking first aid training Edmonton learners ask the same questions — which course to take, whether online-only certificates are valid, and what to do when one expires. Here are clear answers based on Alberta OHS rules.
CPR Level C is the standard most Alberta employers require, covering adult, child, and infant CPR and AED use. CPR Level B covers children and infants (mainly childcare and ECE), and CPR Level A covers adults only. If unsure, choose Level C.
Yes, your certificate stays valid until it expires. On March 31, 2023 Alberta aligned with CSA Z1210-17 and renamed the courses: Emergency First Aid became Basic First Aid, and Standard First Aid became Intermediate First Aid. Only the names changed.
No. Alberta OHS approved certification requires an in-person skills assessment, so a fully online course doesn't qualify under Part 11. Our blended first aid training combines online theory with an in-class skills session. Online-only certificates aren't accepted by Edmonton employers.
CPR/AED certifications are valid three years in Alberta. Recertify before your expiry date with a refresher course. Once a certificate expires — even by a day — you must retake the full course with the same certifying body.
Yes. Security staff need at least Basic First Aid & CPR Level C; most Edmonton workplaces prefer Intermediate First Aid for supervisors. Trades fall under Part 11 Schedule 2, which sets how many trained workers each shift needs.
