Toronto First Aid & CPR Instructor Development Course
Our Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR Instructor Development course in Toronto is designed to impart candidates with the knowledge and skills required to teach First Aid and CPR courses. This intensive program is a comprehensive course that offers guidance on how-tos for teaching individual and group activities, classroom exercises, injury prevention ideas, inclusion, and progressive learning.
Once prerequisites are met, the candidate may begin the next step of the training which is the Fundamentals of Instruction. Candidates must complete 8 hours of online study, where the information acquired from the material will be integrated into a 14.5-hour (2-day) in-class component. Once this component is complete, they may move on to the Discipline-Specific classroom component, which requires another 2 days of training in person. To complete their Instructor Certificate, participants will be given the chance to practice their teaching abilities by running peer teaching sessions, which is the final stage in obtaining this credential.
You’ll receive an Instructor certification after successful completion which is valid for three years. Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency Child Care First Aid, Standard Child Care First Aid, and CPR courses can all be taught by qualified instructors.

Toronto Professional Responder Instructor Development Course
Our Canadian Red Cross Professional Responder Instructor Development course in Toronto is designed to teach instructors in Canada the specialized skills they will need to instruct courses for First Responders (FR), Emergency Medical Responders (EMR), and advanced first aid. To effectively demonstrate techniques for engaging students in active learning include incorporating a variety of case studies, demonstrating concepts in multiple settings, and offering unique classroom experiences.
Upon meeting the prerequisites for the course, candidates can begin learning the Fundamentals of Instruction component. The candidate must complete an 8-hour online training before moving on to the classroom portion of this component. Under the careful guidance of an Instructor Trainer, students will put the principles they learned into practice. After completion of this module, candidates may proceed to the 2-day discipline-specific classroom component, which prepares them to teach Professional Responder courses. The teaching experience component follows, allowing applicants to instruct in a dynamic classroom setting before their certification can be processed.
The candidate will be provided with an e-certificate that’s valid for three years after you’ve completed the program. The candidate’s completion of the pathway components and courses that they wish to teach will be verified, according to their specifications. The program may also entail the following: BLS instructor, first responder instructor, and emergency medical responder instructor.

Toronto Instructor Development Transfer Course
Our Canadian Red Cross First Aid Instructor Transfer program in Toronto is a certification that qualifies students to teach Red Cross first-aid courses such as CPR, Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Child Care First Aid, and Marine Basic First Aid.
There are two ways that candidates may qualify for the Instructor Development Program with previous experience:
- They are instructors with another ministry-approved First Aid agency
- They are a Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/Instructor Trainer or an educator (elementary or secondary level)
Candidates will be trained in one of these ways depending on the category they fall into: Candidates who fall into the first group will apply what they’ve learnt throughout previous First Aid education from other recognized organizations to the Red Cross’s First Aid program. They will still need to complete a Fundamentals of Instruction course and pass prerequisites, after which their skills will be evaluated. If the candidate has successfully completed First Aid and CPR, they may proceed to the Discipline-Specific Component. They will then be sent on to a short in-class Teaching Experience.
Candidates who fit into category 2 will be taught Red Cross delivery approaches for instruction in a specific type of classroom, which is up to 14.5 hours long. To finish this course pathway, the candidate must first pass a skills evaluation. Candidates who have experience as educators or Red Cross-approved Water Safety Instructors can skip the Fundamentals of instruction. After they finish the discipline-specific component, participants will complete a teaching experience component that gives them practice with peer teaching sessions.
Upon successful completion of the training, candidates will receive a certificate that is valid for up to three years.

Toronto Instructor Development Recertification Course
Our Canadian Red Cross First Aid Instructor Recertification Course in Toronto is aimed at current Red Cross instructors who wish to recertify their instructor certificates and use the Instructor Recertification Hub. Candidates who meet the requirements will be eligible to teach Red Cross First Aid and CPR courses such as Emergency and Basic First Aid, CPR/AED, Marine Basic First Aid, and Emergency and Standard Child Care First Aid. This course will go over topics such as teaching, supervision, and evaluation. It features individual and group tasks, practice teaching exercises, injury prevention concepts, inclusion methods, and progressive learning techniques.
The HUB component is a mandatory prerequisite for our Instructor Recertification course. This is a 4-hour training which can either be done online or in person. The HUB must be completed every 3 years. After the candidate has successfully finished the HUB, they are able to move on to the discipline-specific component. This 4-hour training can be done virtually or in class. There are 3 disciplines candidates may recertify in:
- First Aid & CPR (4 hours)
- Professional Responder (4 hours)
- Wilderness (4 hours).
In order to become a certified instructor, you first must have a current Red Cross First Aid Program Instructor Certification as well as experience teaching 3 Canadian Red Cross First Aid Programs during the certificate’s validity period. After successfully finishing this course, the student will receive a certificate that is valid for up to 3 years.

- Must hold a valid Canadian Red Cross Instructor certification
- Proof that instructor has taught at least 3 Canadian Red Cross courses (in that discipline) while their Instructor certificate was valid (one must have been the highest level of the discipline they wish to recertify)
- Must have taught at least one Standard First Aid, Standard Child Care First Aid or Marine Basic First Aid course since earning Instructor certification
