Select North York First Aid & CPR Instructor Courses

Our Canadian Red Cross instructor development course in North York is designed to teach candidates the knowledge and abilities necessary to deliver First Aid & CPR courses. Our instructor development program is designed to be a comprehensive guide which contains how-tos on teaching and facilitating, individual and group tasks, teaching practice, injury prevention principles, inclusion, and progressive learning.

After meeting the prerequisites of the course, the candidate can begin the Fundamentals of Instruction. This section requires candidates to complete 8 hours of online training  where the knowledge acquired from the material will be integrated into a 14.5 hour (2-day) in-class component. Once this is completed, they may move to the Discipline-Specific classroom component which requires another 2 days of training in-class. The participants will be given the opportunity to practice their teaching skills by leading peer teaching sessions which is the last step to acquire their Instructor Certificate.

Upon completion, you’ll be granted an e-certificate valid for 3 years. Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Marine Basic First Aid, Emergency Child Care First Aid, Standard Child Care First Aid, and CPR courses can all be taught by certified instructors.

Prerequisites

  • Must be 18 years of age or above
  • Must hold a valid Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C certification

Our Canadian Red Cross Professional Responder Instructor development course is designed with an emphasis on teaching techniques that are necessary to instruct specialized courses for First Responders (FR), Emergency Medical Responders (EMR), and advanced first aid in North York. These include providing real-life scenarios, conducting instructive sessions in multiple settings, and organizing unique classes.

The course material is designed for a wide range of Instructors, allowing for a vibrant learning atmosphere based on teaching talents. It also allows instructors to teach other First Aid courses with minimal training time.

Upon meeting the prerequisites for the course, candidates can begin the Fundamentals of Instruction component. An 8-hour online training must be completed prior to the classroom portion of this component, where the candidate must apply the principles under the supervision of an Instructor Trainer. Once this is complete, candidates may move to the 2-day discipline-specific classroom component which prepares them to teach Professional Responder courses. This is then followed by the teaching experience component which allows candidates to teach in a dynamic classroom environment after which their certification can be processed.

Certifications have a three-year validity period. The candidate’s completion of the pathway components and courses that they wish to teach will be verified, in accordance with their desires. This may include the following: BLS Instructor, First Responder Instructor as well as Emergency Medical Responder Instructor.

Prerequisites

  • Must be 18 years of age or above

Our First Aid Instructor Transfer course in North York is a Canadian Red Cross certification that allows students to become instructors of Red Cross safety courses such as CPR, Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Child Care First Aid, and Marine Basic First Aid.

There are two categories where candidates may qualify for the Instructor Development Transfer Program with previous experience:

  1. They are an instructor with another ministry-approved First Aid agency
  2. They are a Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/Instructor Trainer or an educator (elementary or secondary level)

Depending on the category the candidate fits in, their training will follow one of these paths: For those who fit into the first category, candidates will apply what they’ve learned in prior First Aid training from other recognized entities to the Red Cross’s First Aid program. They will still need to check prerequisites and have their skills evaluated, then complete a Fundamentals of Instruction course. Once this is complete, they may skip the Discipline Specific Component since they already understand First Aid & CPR. Their next step will be a short in-class Teaching Experience.

However, the candidates who fit in category 2 will learn Red Cross delivery approaches for instruction in a discipline-specific classroom which is up to 14.5 hours. To complete this course pathway, the candidate must start by successfully completing a skills evaluation. Candidates will then skip the Fundamentals of instruction considering the candidate has experience as an educator or Red Cross approved Water Safety Instructor. Once they complete the discipline-specific component, the participants will complete a teaching experience component which allows them to practice peer teaching sessions.

Prerequisites

  • Must be 18 years of age or above
  • Must hold a valid Canadian Red Cross certificate in the discipline you wish to teach
