Vaughan First Aid and CPR Certification — Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about course selection, CPR certification, recertification, Basic Life Support, group training and our Vaughan location.
Many Ontario workplaces require Intermediate/Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C. Smaller workplaces may need Basic/Emergency First Aid, depending on staffing and the employer's requirements. Intermediate First Aid (formerly called Standard First Aid) is the current Canadian Red Cross course name. The program includes first aid principles, CPR C, AED use and response to medical emergencies, and it meets applicable workplace safety requirements when delivered through a WSIB-approved program. Full certification has no prerequisites, but participants should confirm the exact course required by their employer, school, university or placement before registration.
Courses run at 6100 Hwy 7, Vaughan, ON L4H 0R2, near Highway 7 and Islington Avenue. The facility has free on-site parking, is wheelchair accessible and serves Woodbridge, Maple, Kleinburg, Concord, Vellore Village, Thornhill and nearby York Region communities. Registration is available on our website, or organizations can contact us to request private training at their location.
Blended Basic/Emergency First Aid and Intermediate/Standard First Aid courses begin with an online theory portion completed before class. After registration, participants complete the online material and then attend a scheduled classroom session for instructor-led review, hands-on practice, CPR C scenarios, AED skills and the practical assessment. The blended and corresponding full course meet the same workplace safety requirements, while the shorter classroom time is convenient for busy schedules.
CPR/AED Level C is the common workplace CPR certification because it covers adults, children and infants. A CPR course in Vaughan includes recognizing cardiovascular emergencies and sudden cardiac arrest, choking response, CPR skills and safe automated external defibrillator use. CPR C certification is generally valid for three years. Participants must demonstrate the required skills and achieve at least 75% on the written evaluation for successful completion. Before registration, confirm the CPR level required by your employer, school or program.
Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR/AED Level C certificates are generally valid for three years. Intermediate/Standard First Aid recertification is completed once within the 90 days before the current certificate expires and through the same certifying body. Recertification refreshes knowledge through hands-on practice and scenarios. If the certificate is expired, more than three years old or otherwise ineligible, the participant must complete the full course.
Basic Life Support, or BLS, replaced CPR-HCP in the Canadian Red Cross program in April 2019. It is designed for nurses, paramedics, physicians, dental professionals, healthcare students and first responders. BLS training focuses on high-performance CPR, team-based resuscitation, AED skills, cardiovascular emergencies, trauma and opioid overdose response. BLS certification is valid for one year and requires annual renewal. Coast2Coast offers Canadian Red Cross and Heart & Stroke BLS pathways.
Yes. Private group first aid and CPR training allows organizations to certify several employees at the same time and can reduce scheduling disruption and per-participant costs. Businesses, schools and community organizations can request Intermediate/Standard First Aid, Basic/Emergency First Aid, CPR/AED Level C or BLS on a suitable date, time and location. Sessions include the required theory, instructor-led demonstrations and hands-on practice so participants build confidence in practical life-saving skills.
Yes. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course is designed for youth aged 11 to 15, while Stay Safe! is for ages 9 to 13. These programs teach age-appropriate basic first aid, personal safety, child care and emergency preparedness. Advanced options include First Responder and Emergency Medical Responder training. EMR is an 80-hour in-class program for responder-level careers.
Digital certificates are issued within 48 hours after successful completion. Participants must attend the required class, complete the online portion when enrolled in blended learning, demonstrate all required skills during the practical assessment and achieve a minimum grade of 75% on the written evaluation. The certificate identifies the course and certifying body completed.
First aid training prepares people to recognize and respond to medical emergencies before professional help arrives. For Vaughan businesses, schools and organizations, the correct first aid and CPR certification supports workplace safety requirements and helps trained staff respond to injury, choking, cardiac arrest and other emergencies. Practical training also improves confidence, emergency preparedness and the ability to act when life-saving skills are needed.
