First Aid & CPR Training in Thunder Bay — What to Know
Coast2Coast delivers WSIB approved, Canadian Red Cross certified first aid, CPR/AED and Basic Life Support training throughout Thunder Bay and northwestern Ontario. We do not have a training centre in Thunder Bay yet, so courses run as private or group sessions at your own site — our instructors arrive with adult, child and infant manikins, AED trainers and every course material. Certificates are issued within 48 hours. Public class dates are opening soon; join the waitlist and we will contact you first.
Which course does my workplace need?
Most Ontario workplaces require Intermediate/Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level C. WSIB Regulation 1101 sets the level of first aid coverage by the number of workers on a shift and the nature of the work, so a small low-risk office may only need Basic/Emergency First Aid with CPR/AED Level C. Both carry a three-year Canadian Red Cross certificate and both are WSIB approved.
Intermediate or Standard First Aid — same course
The Canadian Red Cross renamed Standard First Aid to Intermediate First Aid in line with the national CSA Z1210 standard. Employers accept either name, the content is the same, and the certificate remains valid for three years.
Online-only certificates do not meet Regulation 1101
WSIB approved certification requires an in-person skills assessment. A course delivered entirely online cannot produce a valid workplace certificate. Our blended format puts the theory online at your own pace and the hands-on skills in the room with an instructor, which does meet the regulation.
BLS for healthcare teams
Basic Life Support is the four-hour session for nurses, nursing students, paramedics, physicians, dental and clinical staff. It replaced CPR-HCP in April 2019 and covers high-performance CPR, airway management, opioid overdose response and team-based resuscitation. BLS is valid for one year, where First Aid and CPR/AED Level C runs three.
Booking group training in northwestern Ontario
Group sessions need eight or more participants and can run on your dates, including evenings, weekends and shift changeovers. We travel to forestry and mining operations, health care sites, transport depots and campuses across the region. Request a quote through our private and group training page and we will come back within one business day.

Certification — Frequently Asked Questions
Answers based on Ontario WSIB rules, Canadian Red Cross policy, and Thunder Bay course options.
Yes. Our Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C training is WSIB approved, which is the certification most Ontario employers ask for. You receive a Canadian Red Cross certificate valid for three years.
Your certificate is issued within 48 hours of finishing the course. You get a digital copy you can send to an employer straight away, and it stays available in your Red Cross account.
Blended means you complete the theory online at your own pace at home, then come in for the hands-on day. Full classroom covers everything in person. The certificate is identical either way — pick whichever fits your schedule.
Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C is valid for three years. Basic Life Support (BLS) is valid for one year, because healthcare employers require an annual renewal.
You can recertify if your current certificate is still valid or expired by no more than 90 days, and it was issued by the Canadian Red Cross or an equivalent provider. Bring it with you on the day. If it expired more than 90 days ago you need the full course again.
Bring photo ID, your existing certificate if you are recertifying, and your online completion record if you booked a blended course. Wear comfortable clothes — you will be kneeling on the floor for the CPR practice.
Yes. With eight or more participants we come to you: pick your course type, date and site and we send Canadian Red Cross certified instructors, with centralized billing and one point of contact for the booking.
Yes — contact us before your class date and we will move you to another date or another location. Our team can also transfer a seat to a colleague if you booked for your workplace.
BLS is the healthcare provider level, asked for by hospitals, nursing and paramedic programs and most regulated health colleges. Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C is the workplace certification for everyone else. If your employer or school named one specifically, take that one.
Parking and arrival details for this site are listed in the location section on this page, along with directions and transit access. If anything is unclear, call us before your class and we will walk you through it.
Arrive about 15 minutes before the start time so we can check your ID and paperwork without holding up the class. Late arrivals can miss required content, which affects certification.
