Looking forward to becoming a hero of your community? At Coast2Coast we provide the Canadian Red Cross Professional Responder Instructor course which is based in London. The course material is designed to let instructors’ unique talents shine, creating a dynamic learning environment.

Candidates can begin the Fundamentals of Instruction component once they have completed the prerequisites for the course. This component includes an 8-hour online training course and a classroom portion where they will put the principles into practice under the supervision of an Instructor Trainer. Once the Fundamentals of Instruction component is complete, they will attend a two-day Discipline-Specific component that prepares them to teach Professional Responder courses. Lastly, they will complete a Teaching Experience component, which allows candidates to teach in a dynamic classroom environment, their certification can be processed.

The validity of certifications is three years. The candidate’s completion of the pathway components and courses that they wish to teach will be verified, in accordance with their specifications. Do you have prior teaching experience either as an instructor or a school educator? At Coast2Coast we offer a First Aid Instructor Transfer course at our location in London. With this Canadian Red Cross certification, students can become instructors of various Red Cross safety courses, including CPR, Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, Child Care First Aid and Marine Basic First Aid.

Candidates may qualify for the Instructor Development Program if they have prior experience in one of the following two categories:

  1. If they have completed an Instructor training with another First Aid agency
  2. If they work as the Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor/ instructor Trainer or as a teacher (elementary or secondary level)

Depending on which category the candidate falls into, their training will go down one of these paths:

  1. Candidates who fall into the first category will apply what they’ve learnt in prior First Aid training from other reputable organizations to the Red Cross’s First Aid curriculum. They will still need to check if they have met the prerequisites and have their skills evaluated before beginning the Fundamentals of Instruction component. They will then be able to skip the Discipline-Specific component since they already have skills and knowledge acquired for First Aid and CPR. The next step in their training will be a brief in-class Teaching Experience.
  2. The candidates who fit into category 2 are those who have previous experience as educators or Red Cross Water Safety Instructors. These candidates will skip the Fundamentals of Instruction component as they already have this knowledge. Instead, they will learn Red Cross delivery approaches that take up to 14.5 hours in a Discipline-Specific classroom component. After the participant finishes the Discipline-Specific component, they will complete a teaching experience requirement where they can lead small group sessions.

Candidates who successfully complete the course will be given a certificate that is valid for three years.
