BLS is for healthcare professionals. Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED is for workplace responders and the general public. BLS covers two-rescuer CPR, AED use, bag-mask ventilation and team-based resuscitation, and the American Heart Association issues the eCard. The Adult and Pediatric course covers CPR and AED use for adults, children and infants, plus first aid for choking, bleeding, burns and other emergencies, and the American Red Cross issues the certificate. If your employer is a hospital, clinic or other healthcare facility, ask whether they require BLS. For most other jobs, the first aid course is the right choice.

No. A certification that meets workplace requirements needs a hands-on skills session. The American Red Cross blended and in-person courses include a two-year certification that meets OSHA requirements, and online-only courses skip the hands-on skills check. We offer both formats: blended learning, with an online portion at home followed by a skills session, and fully in person, where you learn everything directly from an instructor without video or computer requirements. Both are taught at our Los Angeles facility.

You finish a self-paced online portion first, then attend an in-person skills session. The online portion covers the background knowledge on any device. The skills session confirms your CPR, AED Trainer use and first aid skills with an instructor. HeartCode BLS works the same way for healthcare professionals: an online portion, then a hands-on skills session with an American Heart Association instructor. If you would rather learn everything in the classroom, choose the fully in-person format.

Both are valid for two years. An American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certificate is valid for two years from the date it is issued. A BLS eCard from the American Heart Association is also valid for two years. Book your renewal at least a month before your card expires so you do not have a gap in coverage.

Many schools, child care centers and licensing bodies ask for current pediatric CPR, so check your employer's requirement before you book. Our American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course teaches CPR and AED use for adults, children and infants, including choking response and when hands-only CPR applies. You practice on adult, child and infant manikins.

Yes. Teams of 8 or more can book first aid, CPR/AED and BLS training at their own workplace, and we bring all equipment. Group sessions suit offices, schools, daycares and production teams. Send a request through our group training page and we will follow up.

You practice CPR on adult, child and infant manikins, and you use an AED Trainer. Instructors coach compressions, rescue breaths and choking response, then run hands-on skills testing with automated external defibrillator trainers. Depending on the course, you also practice the recovery position, recognizing an emergency and activating EMS by calling 911, plus first aid for bone and joint injuries and environmental emergencies.

Yes. Our American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED course includes infant CPR classes, with practice on infant manikins alongside adult and child CPR.
