Frequently Asked Questions:

Let us help you with the answers to your most frequently asked questions.

Both Basic Life Support and CPR training are two very different levels. The material covered is similar, but BLS includes essential life support details needed by professional healthcare workers. CPR Level C training is a general CPR training course recommended for all Canadians because it could help them save a life. On the other hand, Basic Life Support is specialized CPR needed by anyone working in professional healthcare in pre-hospital or hospital roles, including nurses, first responders, lifesavers, and dentists.

Basic Life Support training is a four-hour long course. During this time, you cover all the modules required for your certification. Upon completion, the certificate we provide you with is valid for one year.

If you are confused with the older HCP training that used to be valid for three years, that does not exist anymore. HCP was upgraded to BLS by the government in 2019 to ensure that healthcare professionals renew these vital lifesaving skills annually.

The three elements of Basic Life Support are CPR, rescue breathing and airway obstruction. These are used to treat patients suffering from cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, opioid overdose and more.

No. BLS is a more advanced form of CPR training. Our Canadian Red Cross approved Basic Life Support training provides you with a WSIB approved certificate that qualifies you to work in various healthcare professional roles. The BLS is a hands-on course, ensuring that you are adequately trained to handle any breathing emergency. Once you complete the course, you must prove your theoretical and hands-on skills by passing the practical and multiple-choice exams.

Our instructors are willing to give you advice should you fail one of the two parts and allow you a second chance to pass, but if you fail the section again, you will have to reschedule your re-training.

There are several things you can do to ensure you pass the course – read through your Basic Life Support e-book before attending the course to familiarize yourself with the topics, pay attention to your instructor, take notes, and ask questions.

If you feel you may struggle with the course or want to prepare for it, then taking the Standard First Aid &CPR/AED course in Oakville first can help you better understand Basic Life Support.
