Frequently Asked Questions:

First Aid & CPR training involves a lot of kneeling and movement as you go through the paces of CPR and resuscitation. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes, preferably trousers and a stretchy blouse to ensure you can move freely. Also, wear flat, comfortable shoes.

In cases of cardiac arrest, CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation can save their life. Therefore, CPR is essential in some emergencies, and all our Blended First Aid courses include CPR training. During the training, you learn to assess situations and apply the appropriate treatment.

Other cases where you may need to provide rescue breathing include near-drowning, choking, cases of poisoning, overdoses, and severe respiratory attacks from asthma or allergies.

Remember: CPR entails supplying oxygen to a person’s lungs when they aren’t breathing. Just 3 minutes without oxygen leads to brain damage; that is why you need to act quickly.

There are five cycles of rescue breaths given in two minutes. Each cycle consists of 30 compressions and two rescue breaths, or 15 compressions and one breath repeated twice. Rescuers must offer five of these cycles every two minutes. However, rescuers continue to administer further cycles to maintain the compressions adequately until help arrives or the patient is revived. Swapping with other rescuers after five cycles helps to prevent exhaustion.

The correct compression depth for CPR varies according to the person’s age:

  • In adults and children who have reached puberty, you must press the chest down at least 2 to 2.5 inches or between 5 and 6 cm.
  • For children from 1 year of age and until they reach the age of puberty, you must press the chest down to at least one-third of its chest depth.
  • The correct compression depth for infants is at least one-third of its chest depth.

Typically, while providing CPR, you will perform 30 compressions within 15-18 seconds. After 30 compressions, you may give two rescue breaths. The average amount of breaths per minute is eight.
