Psychological First Aid Course

This course is designed for anyone 16 years (recommended) or older who is interested in learning about how psychology plays just as important a role as physical first aiders in our day-to-day lives. Psychological First Aid teaches participants about the effects of stress, loss, trauma and grief of themselves and others. It is important for participants to understand these effects so they are able to help themselves or others handle life’s challenges or mental health issues.

We all know someone who is suffering with their mental health whether that is from stress, trauma or grief. What we may not know is how they are coping with their problem. Many of those who are suffering require emotional and psychological support in order to properly heal.

This course focuses on self-care and personal protection so participants can learn to build resiliency against these challenges and maintain a proper balance of their mental, emotional and physical health. Not only will you learn how to help yourself, you will also learn how to identify and prevent stress for others and become a caring, supportive listener.

Psychological First Aid Course Information

All In-Class Training:	12 hours teaching time
Online Blended Training:	90 minutes online 7 hours teaching time
Course Content:	The Red Cross Case Studies Psychological First Aid Operational Principles Stress, Distress Loss and Grief Trauma Indicators Vulnerable Populations Supportive Communication Look, Listen, Link, Live Resiliency and Protective Factors Protection Policies, Legislation Self-Care
Requirements:	16 years of age (recommended) 100% attendance of the course 75% score on the multiple choice knowledge test
Certification:	Certificate will be issued, valid for 3 years

Online Psychological First Aid Training Courses

For those who do not have groups of 8+ participants to complete the in-class Psychological First Aid course, we also offer online-only training courses. Our online-only Psychological First Aid courses allow you to learn valuable skills from the comfort of your own home.

Walaa was my instructor for the EFA CPRC &AED training in Mississauga. One of the best teachers I’ve had for this course. She made the material easy to digest, didn’t rush anything, her communication skills are on point even when asked questions she was able to respond and get back to the topic with minimal delay. The practical section was very comfortable. I’ve had many instructors expect the class to deliver the material or call on people constantly even when they didn’t feel comfortable while they just sat there agreeing or disagreeing which can be very overwhelming and daunting for your first time. Walaa went over everything you go over in the online section with wonderful real life examples that help you to better understand how and why you’re helping people. If I could select my instructor every 3 years I would choose her again for sure!
